- Cozumel ~ Still Battered but improving!! |
|
Gert
Cozumel is still
being hammered with strong gusting winds 30-50mph and we have 3-4 ft seas with
sporadic rains and clouds. The storm has moved on into the Gulf but we
continue to have tropical storm type weather conditions. The Port Captain
has kept the Port closed now....4th day. Ferries have not run from the
mainland since Friday night. Air flight traffic resumed yesterday with
both Continental and some charter flights landing/taking off despite the high
winds. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon!!! It's time to
dive!!

- Rainy Y Windy in Can Cun |
|
2027 hrs local time. Today the winds here in Can Cun have been stronger than any other day.Lots of power outages y Phone lines down.Trees are down.Flooding in the streets throughout the area.Phone lines on y off. Airport seems to be open for some flights but not for all. Still windy y rainy as off this writting but seems to be improving. Port is closed as to be expected... Other than that not to many problems. Tommorow should be better? Remember a Palapa in Yalapa is better than a condo in redondo....Unless its in the path of Isador... Cheers.....From Can Cun ===== diverdan007 AT yahoo.com Daniel G.Callahan Calle Hunab Ku Casa 39,lote 15,Smz 26 Can Cun Quintana Roo 77500,Mexico 011-52-998-850-1275 __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? It is 2307 hours Can Cun local time. I am in Can Cun y the temp.is 23 degrees.Predicted high 28 degrees.average high is normally 33-34. Wind gust up to 35 kph. Light rain on y off. No power outages reported at this time. I am within 1 kilometer from the bay of isle de mujeres at Puerto Juarez. The storm appears to be moving about 7 kph. They have evacuated several small towns to the east in anticipation that the storm will move south south west? I will try y get the names of the towns if possible. One is Tiziman.Mostly coastle towns.Be adevised that most of these towns use the traditionsl thatched huts(Like Gilligans Island) for homes y not concrete. So far the rain has been light y there is no major flooding. Airport has suspended flights since this afternoon. Everything is bussiness as usual. diverdan007 AT yahoo.com Sincerly, Daniel G. Gert, We are seeing some bands of dark clouds and a little rain but all in all, I think we are far enough south that won{t be feeling too much impact from this one. Winds are normal, actually lower than normal coming out of the west. Joel Kluger |

Saturday 1 pm Cozumel. Winds from the south west from 20 to 30 miles an hour and higher gusts have the port closed to all traffic. Including the passenger ferries. We are hoping the service will resume on Sunday. A wind change has left the east cost very calm. No waves but a visible current. Wave height on the west coast are 3 to 6 feet with water levels up at least a foot. No rain as of yet. Overcast with some blue sky showing. Looks like the worst went to the north. Isla Mujeres and Holbox. Most stores did not close and are open for business. We are expecting Sunday and Monday to be business as normal. No damage done to our area. That's all from Cozumel. Gert
Things are getting
more interesting here as the storm approaches the northern tip of the Yucatan
Penninsula!!
At this moment it is
cloudy...big puffy grey clouds with strong gusty winds coming from...can you
believe...the SW !!!
Rains have been
sporadic and amazingly light given what has hit Cuba
already.
Wave heights are 3-4
feet now and expected to increase later today.
Forecasts seem to
indicate our worst will be this evening and tomorrow.
Everyone is fine it
seems....no panic really...just alertness and of course less tourist activities
going on!
Wish us
well!!

It is very calm here in Cozumel. Slight breeze no more. Wave height on the other side (east coast) is extremely high with a major under tow. The Port is closed to boats under 40 feet. With all snorkel activity closed. Scattered showers. Temp in the mid 80s The Island has not taken much action. No real feeling that we are in danger. No boarding of windows or gas lines. Planes continue to arrive. That is all for now. Robert McPherson www.diveincozumel.com Sea & Sun Divers of Cozumel |
