- the tail of michelle
  • From: "A. van Kasteel" <avk AT xs4all.nl>
  • Date: Mon, 05 Nov 2001 23:52:31 -0400
Today (5 Nov 2001) we got some hits from the large tail of Michelle in
San Pedro de Macoris (see Mysat)
The power went down 7 times today and we had several rainshowers and
sometimes a force wind.
It was rather cold today as well (for a tropical island:)
Dark clouds were having a race with eachother in the sky.
No thunder and lightning.

Let's hope Michelle was the last Caribbean one this year.

- Bye Bye Iris

Well, we have been very lucky again and Iris went past
with a bit of wind and some cloudy grey skies. The sea
is a bit choppy but we are still intending to take out
our boat excursions tomorrow.

Lets hope Jerry is as kind, but like I keep saying,
its the men that cause the trouble.

We are all hoping our friends to the west have an easy
a time as we have had with Iris,

Tracy

Saterday 6th 14:00 Local Time
San Pedro de Macoris.

The lights are back on, so i can use my computer again
Nothing happend last night.
At this moment we have a grey sky (like we normally have in Holland)
with some real slow cloud movement.
Sometimes we have a little breeze from the south, but that is all for
now.

We stay alert, but i think Iris will pass without giving a big kiss.

Well, we had all breathed an obviously premature sigh
of relief here, thinking we'd had a lucky season
again, and didn't expect any more action this year.
Then along comes Iris!!

Everyone seems very calm here, not very concerned at
all. The only preparation is that sea / boat
excursions for the south coast have been cancelled for
Saturday and Sunday, as bad seas are expected.

I work for a British tour operator here, and all the
British tour operators have been speaking today. We
have decided not to make any special announcements at
this stage, but will look again Saturday morning to
see what the outlook is and make a decision.

I am on the North coast, where we are having a thunder
storm and rain this evening, nothing unusual for this
time of year.

I was here for George and Debbie, and it always seems
to be the men that cause the problems - so fingers
crossed.

More tomorrow as Iris comes to visit!

Tracy, Puerto Plata.
