Suddenly it was TD 12, now it's Karl, a new depression. How quickly they grow up! Looks like he will be heading north. Hope he stays on that track. We NEED to dry out. The earth is saturated, every time it rains it looks to flood! Been drizzling all night. Lightning and thunder seems to have slowed down. Hopefully we will see the sun tomorrow.

Lots of thunder and lightning. I truly suspect that this is another depression on the heels of Jeanne. So much rain after the storm has clearly passed. Hope my suspicions aren't true. Earlier when looking at the satellite image, it looked like two different systems!
We had two cruse ships pull in today. Heard that they had been as sea for 5 days! They were all in town and Havensight shopping! There was mud all over from last night's downfall.
Frenchtown outside Alexander's, ball park still under water!
Right across from Yacht Haven. Used to be called Turnbull City since this is where the Governor had his campaign headquarters. SO, would this be Turnbull Lake?
Boat stuck on the road in Nadir. At least it didn't float there!
Skies looking to clear in the South, but with the thunder I am hearing now, was just a tease! Cruise ships still in harbor. Wonder if they will stay late?
Understand there may be a curfew tonight at 6pm. And now I see that TD 12 has formed off the coast of Africa!

- Jeanne/St. Thomas East End
  • From: PANTUSCO AT aol.com
  • Date: Thu, 16 Sep 2004 12:52:17 EDT
We have been through a night of some major rain for St. Thomas. Yesterday was very gusty and then for a while it seemed to have past. In looking at the satellite pictures we knew we were in for much more. I can't really tell if this is "part" of  Jeanne or if it is another system in itself right now but this is definately the part that carries all of the rain. Yesterday carried much rain but nothing in comparison. Constant thunder and lightening has occured as well since 8pm or so last night and still continues now at 1pm today (Thursday).
Below is a picture overlooking Secre Harbor yesterday during the winds from Jeane and also a picture of American Yacht Harbor that I just took 1/2 hour ago. Our beautiful blue water has turned into what looks like a very muddy lake.
Much of the beach at Secret arbor is eroded as well. I will take some photos and send later today if possible.

Well, here we sit waiting for the rain to stop! we all pray for rain, but never this much! I hear lot of mud all over the place. Two cruise ships in town that have been floating around for 5 days. What a day in store for them! Will be out and about to check the mud. Report and pictures later I hope.

Thought it was all gone. More bands to come. Had quite a squall earlier tonight. Was out and about and never seen do much water! Frenchtown was under at least 5 or 6 inches of water. The entire ballpark was covered! The Veteran's Drive from Frenchtown to The Holiday Inn was under water and mud on the left side going uptown! Forecasters say this should end sometime tomorrow! Wonder if they will be closing places and schools again tomorrow?

Here on St. Thomas' Northside.
Wind is now somewhat steady with bigger gusts every ten or fifteen minutes or so.
Same deal with the rain. drizzle, pour, drizzle, pour.
I am posting this at 12:30AM, Wed. Jeanne should be around 30 miles South-South east of St. Croix right now.
According to forecasts as of 11PM Tue, the center of Jeanne should pass at 50 miles from St. Thomas around 9AM Wed.
Power went out once thusfar, only to return within a matter of seconds.
Something tells me that this will intensify for us, but who knows.
My best to St. Croix
I shall post in the morning if possible.

It has been raining a little and some small gusts of wind. Looks like she will pass south of St. Croix in the next few hours. We should be north enough to not get any of the higher gusts of wind.
A good sign to me is to go to Frenchtown and if the fishermen have hauled their boats into the ball park it will be rough. They have only hauled them up to the guard rail in the parking lot and have them tied. Should be able to sleep well tonight!

There was talk last night about a fundraiser in Frenchtown to help out. Our favorite chef George of Alexander's and Hook, Line, and Sinker is from Grenada. Ivan is traveling westward. He has become a category 4 hurricane already! Hope he is gentle on us. From what I have looked at, he will be passing below us, but we have to remember is that the worst winds are on the North side of the storm, so if he passes the same distance as Frances did, we will feel it, especially in St. Croix!

Shortly after three, I went out to check on the 'wind.' Rather eerie, a slight wind out of the west. Town reminds me of a night in the sixties when my grandmother, who came for refuge, and I sat up all night during a hurricane 'scare,' as we called them, waiting for a storm that never showed! She would be saying, 'look at those asses'. referring to the people who broke curfew driving around on the waterfront! Great bonding experience at 3 in the morning!
Checked the 2 o'clock coordinates and Frances is moving further north at 19.8. Seems to be drifting higher. Still can't see her affecting us that much. We have look out for her outer bands. Checking back at 6!

Here on St. Thomas, wind has certainly strengthened ... it is actually
starting to howl a tad. Yes, the wind seems to be building somewhat
steadily compared to the late hours of Monday, but who really knows if it
will last.
Home Depot almost sold out of plywood today. Quite a few people, it
seems, have boarded up. And gas stations were flooded with lines of cars.
I could go on and on about the supermarket and how there wasn't any soup
left.

We shall see what happens later this morning.

Long time since no report!
Here we sit, waiting. As far as some are concerned, it should blow like hell tomorrow. I don't think so. People are boarding up, buying water and gas! We are under hurricane warning. They say it should blow tropical storm winds in the morning. This we will have to wait and see! I personally don't think it will affect us that much. Hope I am right!
More in the morning!
