- Oct. 5 - Apocalyptic Scenes Everywhere !
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Wed, 5 Oct 2022 23:52:35 -0400
The first thing I saw on YouTube this evening was a repeat scene of floods in Trinidad &Tobago caused by another loaded system ripe and ready to become    a hurricane. These scenes were prevalent in Florida and South Carolina. 91L is now a Depression, a slow moving rainmaker like IAN. It has already dumped massive amounts of rain in a short period of time causing  immense flooding. My heart goes out to all the people suffering from these effects. May God bless them and us all.

It seems more and more like it. 91L was originally going to scrape by to our south; then it suddenly dropped to the south scraping by the South American countries as it aims for Central America. The “cone of uncertainty” curves down at that point. It has a high chance of forming into a cyclone while in the Caribbean. Today we got some heavy rain showers but I have no clue where from. 92L will be too far from us when it passes way below us, unless it moves up which is also a possibility. That’s why the Invests should always be monitored. May God bless us all.

We can breathe easy, or can we? Hurricane IAN was unpredictable. I think the weather people must have been going crazy. The last change in it’s path probably saved hundreds of lives in Tampa, when it made landfall much earlier devastating the whole area with a tsunami like surge. Our friends said that Naples was destroyed. Now the countries in Central America are bracing for impacts from 91 L which can become a cyclone. Then on the other hand it can climb back up to us. May God bless us all

So far, it looks like just rain, but there’s a chance that it can develop into a cyclone. We are all asked to monitor the system. There are varied possibilities, one of them brings it closer to us in the Lesser Antilles. May God bless us all.,

There is some confusion about this wave. It does not show up on the map. There’s only the one recognized by the NHC. That is expected to turn to the north away from any land. The one that the weathermen are buzzing about is in the middle of the Atlantic. It has a good chance of becoming a cyclone as early as the middle of next week as a Depression and the general agreement  has it moving in our direction. We have to monitor this one carefully. May God bless us all.

That’s the number of known dead  from the most powerful hurricane to hit Florida in fifty years. Sure, there have been others similar, but still no comparison to IAN. Most of Florida was battered by IAN except for a section of Miami on the east side where a friend of mine lives. Not a drop of rain fell there. For others this will be an unforgettable nightmare and it’s not over. IAN  continues reigning havoc up the east coast a distance of 1000 miles. South Carolina was hit very hard. It’s going to be a very long recovery period. We still have two months of hurricane season to go. We were hit by thunderstorms last night and it rained torrentially for a couple of hours. Flash flood warnings were issued. May God bless us all.

At the moment, it is pouring!  We had a whole day of clouds threatening, but nothing  happening until now. The wind has also picked up. This area was circled as suspicious; something to watch. A wave coming from Africa could be bad news for the Lesser Antilles, that definitely is something to watch. Be safe! Be prepared! May God bless us all.

Scary just looking at the size of that monster storm! Some people apparently said they were used to hurricanes and did not want to evacuate. BUT,
has there ever been such a one as IAN? I hope the number of fatalities will not be too high, though one fatality is one too many. May God bless us all.

  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>

Will Hurricane IAN get the number one place for most destruction, floods, and fatalities? The reports sound horrible especially with so many tornados. St. Croix was leveled by HUGO, but it was a dry storm the rain came after. IAN is a wind and rainmaker, spawning tornados in addition. I am especially concerned about Tampa Bay which is below sea level. There’s nothing to keep the storm surge from flooding well inland. I have a lot of people there and no word as to whether they evacuated the area. I hope and pray that everyone will survive this. May God bless them and us all.

This potential Cat 3  is determined to get to Florida. The storm surge is most likely to take the sea way inland because the waves are high and powerful, and the land is low. There was a documentary about this possible scenario several years ago. The hurricane will be crawling  through Florida so that both sea and rain will create a massive situation. I hope and pray that all of my folks and friends will be in a safe place. May God bless them and us all.

If this trend continues it will be too close for comfort. It is forecast to become a Cat 4 hurricane before it gets to the GOM. It’s only now approaching the Windward  islands. BUT the worst is still to come! I heard from  Brian Shields, the Weatherman, that Guadeloupe got 17” of rain, 1 death reported, roads washed away but even though this is not a Hurricane MARIA it does have RAIN which in some cases can drop 20” if caught in one of those heavy rain bands. As I write the rain is becoming more consistent. Will report back later if we have internet. May God bless us all.

The storm is fluctuating from weakness to strength. She threatens to become a hurricane I’ve with all; the question is when will that happen? We have been getting windier conditions and sporadic showers, nothing intense as yet. We were advised to stay indoors beginning tomorrow noon as that is when FIONA will arrive with all her fury. I plan to go out early and get back as soon as possible. May God bless us all.

So far it has only rained in fits and starts, however, when it becomes consistent it will be serious. We can expect  a major rain event ! I guess that means RAIN as we have never seen before. FIONA has fought the dust all the way from Africa and now she is also fighting strong “cutting winds”. She has to push against the wind and is being slowed down; that will mean intense, heavy rain for 24 to 48 hours as she tracks her way to through the islands to PR and beyond. That’s why the weatherman in PR is very concerned over what will be “extreme flooding conditions”. I pray that all who are in the path of FIONA will take all the precautions necessary to be safe. May God bless us all.

We can expect very stormy conditions with winds 45-50mph. Torrential rain will be an impact; water can be more dangerous than wind.We can count on outages, hopefully not long ones. Be safe!  Be prepared! May God bless us all.

This disturbance which was classified this evening as Invest 96L is heading here possibly arriving as a Depression, a tropical storm, or a hurricane on the 5th anniversary of Hurricane MARIA. Impacts should begin on Friday through the weekend. Many people are unaware of this from what I have gathered. I try to encourage them to monitor the progress of the system. Be safe! Be prepared! It’s moving very slowly, but will be here by Friday or Saturday if it is held back. It is large and disorganized. Thanks to the dust around it the TW cannot develop into a cyclone. However, it will bring “bad”weather with “good” rain to the islands. It’s quite possible that it will  acquire a name while in our neck of the woods. That was quite a lengthy drought that we had this year, so I appreciate the wet weather for a change. Be safe! Be prepared! May God bless us all.

The greatest tragedy of this day in 2001, left many babies without one or both of their parents lost along with thousands of others. They are all 21 years of age like our granddaughter who was born in Spain in March of that year and grew up in St. Croix. A real joy. The hurricane season of that year produced 17 cyclones. 15 name storms, 9 hurricanes, 4 of those major. According to Google.; The worst one was Hurricane Michelle. Damage total $11.94 billion dollars, no comparison to the loss of life and countless grieving families. This year the season has been milder than predicted but that can change. At the moment the most reliable models are in agreement that we could have a Depression or Tropical Storm affecting the Lesser Antilles by the upcoming weekend. The second TW should be passing us to the north. Travelers to this region should check before traveling. May God bless us all.

With all the tropical waves coming off the coast of Africa it looks like the beginning not the peak. This could be the year that we go all the way into December! There were heavy showers on and off today. The rumblings of thunder continued also and our big dog growled back. He cannot stand them. We are now tracking two systems from Africa. It is a fascinating place with video documentaries playing in some of the rooms.(you can Google Fort Christianvearn for more info) Please check it out if you visit St. Croix. Alexander Hamilton lived here.
91 L will be no threat to us as it passes by, so they say, yet we have been told that a weaker system would stay west rather  that climb. This so far is a weak system because of the encroaching dust. There are others coming so be

Since 1988 we have not had such a quiet hurricane season. We are being told that the worst months are coming. We should not let our guard down. Today was another hot and dusty day, so it doesn’t look as if we are getting any tropical waves from Africa. We rely on those to water the whole island, not just a shower here and a shower there; mostly there, we haven’t had any substantial rain on our hill for a long while. Everything a drying up again. It must be a cycle. May God bless us all.

This disturbance is now being investigated for possible development into a cyclone. It has to deal with wind shear and some dust but has been given a 70% chance which is high. We have to monitor this system closely as any wobble to the left can cause direct impacts. Though it is forecast to pass close to the northern islands that can change. Be safe ! Be prepared! Hope no one gets impacted. The worst hurricane in history is on record is MARIA IN 2017 as killing more than 3000 people in Puerto Rico with others elsewhere. Will the exact number ever be known? It had winds of 175 mph sustained. Our house vibrated as the hurricane trekked alongside us as it made it’s way to PR. My cousin there thought the island would be split in two. I heard it from the Weather Man tonight. 1914 produced the least amount of storms. So far we only have three. 2022 could very well outdo 1914. We don’t mind at all. However, there’s a lot of moisture on the way and it can very well include a name storm or two.I just hope and pray that no one gets hit by devastating hurricane this season. May God bless bless us all.

Isabel.

We are having beautiful hurricane season days as you can see :

There is a wave train on the way. It’s no wonder I see rain in the forecast for each day. The closest one is designated 90L. That should be here as a rainmaker for the weekend. Be safe! Be ready for anything ! May God bless us all.

The Saharan dust is dissipating, the wind has dropped; two factors which inhibit storms from developing tropical waves into monsters. In other words: the  2022 hurricane season has finally started! May God bless us all.

The first of three tropical waves coming off the coast of Africa should bring a lot of moisture to the islands. The second has a better chance of developing and the third has an even greater chance of developing into a cyclone. That is bad enough already, but they all s-eem to be following the same route, toward us! Don’t get caught unprepared! May God bless us all.

The next few days promise us some precipitation. It has been hot and dry as I mentioned yesterday so this would be a most welcome relief.  It was really nice to hear the raindrops on the roof this morning. May God bless us all.

My four weather apps indicate rain for the next few days. I don’t see any sign of where it could possibly be coming from but I hope it does come. May God bless us all.

I heard it should be developing and by next week we could have something with which to contend. I just hope it passes close enough to get some good, substancial rain out of it. We’re still in drought mode. The green lawn is turning   yellow. Let’s be ready for whatever comes. May God bless us all.

Suspense is growing. Is something going to pounce on us all is a sudden? There is a system above us that is being watched.Looks kind of suspicious. Coming off the coast of Africa is another wave that can develop and could be threatening us by next weekend. That sounds too soon. So, let us continue enjoying these days. We are getting blessed at times by passing showers. Prepare and be safe! May God bless us all.

  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sat, 13 Aug 2022 23:53:22 -0400
Wave after tropical wave is being swallowed up by Saharan dust. How long is this going to last? In 1992 there was no name Storm at all until Aug. 16 when ANDREW, a category 5 hurricane crossed the Atlantic and killed 65 people and millions of dollars in damages. It was the first storm of that year and it was powerful. We still have a long way to go to Nov. 30. Be safe! Be prepared! May God bless us all.

Let us not be lulled by this beautiful weather. It’s bound to change. I’m praying for rain, hope it comes this weekend. The dust has been drying it up. We certainly are grateful to go so long without a storm, but it’s not going to remain quiet. Be safe! Be prepared! May God bless us all.

- Aug. 11 - “Quietist Hurricane Season”
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Thu, 11 Aug 2022 23:38:06 -0400
So said Mr. Weatherman. It hasn’t been this way in 10 to 15 yrs. And with the Saharan Air Layer he showed covering the tropical Atlantic there is no possibility of anything developing any time soon. The tropical waves cannot survive in so much dust. Bet Central America wish they had a share in the dust. They are getting flooded ever so often, and I wish we could get some of their rain. However, the hurricane season still has three and a half months to go and lots can happen in that space of time. Be safe! Be prepared! May God bless us all.

  • Date: Wed, 10 Aug 2022 23:42:19 -0400
Good news! What could have been a cyclone has been reduced significantly to an open wave, but most of the moisture will be to our north, so we may not get as much rain. The dust which interfered with 97L is not going to around forever. There are other tropical waves heading this way. So, be safe! Be prepared! May God bless us all.

That is to be seen. Will it be able to get through ? There are a couple of a scenarios which I heard today.  If it is a strong system it will stay far to our north, however, a weaker system would bring it into our neck of the woods. By the middle of this coming week we shall find out which track it will take. Be safe! Be ready! May God bless us all.

This month should be very interesting as far as the number of storms go. Are they all coming in a bunch? Be safe ! Be prepared! May God bless us all.

My daughter returned home from her vacation with a plane load of visitors. This is the time to come. In another week or two it could be more difficult. Tomorrow there’s a 70% chance of rain, hope it does not ruin too many plans. The sargassum is becoming a nuisance and it has to be dealt with. How about a giant vacuum to suck it out of the water directly into dump trucks then hauled away. It will dry up and can be burned. Algae is only active in the water. How about it? • Date: Sat, 9 Jul 2022 23:19:23 -0400
It’s been very hazy, cloudy, very breezy, etc. kind of day. The drought is really causing havoc. The deer are forced to come down from the hills due to lack of rain and the pools of water that they count on. Yesterday while on a WhatsApp video call through the lower garden with a friend in Chile she was able to see three deer. She was delighted !  I wanted to show her the Flamboyant tree in full bloom. She had never seen one and she got to see deer as well. It was quite a birthday treat for her.!
Now with more Saharan dust invading the region any hint of rain will probably dry up. I hope this drought ends soon. May God bless us all.

We certainly expected more rain than we got out of this TW. Not complaining though, it was enough to saturate and make green again. For the next several days there will be a percentage of rain. Surely, there will be other TWs coming and soon we’ll have more than we can handle. May God bless us all.

This was the face of our day today, with some spotty showers on and off.

Happy 4th of July flag is up. We are also celebrating Emancipation day tomorrow.

Let’s see what July has in store for us. It began with Tropical Storm Bonnie forming in Central America, a disturbance 96L off the coast of Georgia, and our tropical wave which arrives tomorrow bringing lots of rain, we hope. The day was nice for visitors, but I was so busy that I only caught the sunset. Our weather is to change drastically tomorrow with the approach of the TW__ thunderstorms at 5:00 a.m.?? The dogs are not going to be happy! May God bless us all.

- June 30 - Looking forward to RAIN
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Thu, 30 Jun 2022 19:53:21 -0400
I could not believe when I heard this morning that a “mini hurricane” swept past us with very strong gusts and heavy rain around 2 a.m.! I slept through it! That was probably coming from one of the rain bands of “wanna be “ Bonnie. Well, hopefully this weekend we shall get that much awaited rain. We need not fear any development into something more powerful. This is  a tropical wave which should remain just that when it’s in our neighborhood. May God bless us all.

The weather was a mixed bag today.

- June 29 - Pre-Tropical Wave Weather
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Wed, 29 Jun 2022 19:05:17 -0400
It has been very stormy with strong winds, high surf, rip currents, sometimes very cloudy, otherwise partly sunny. I thought it was coming from potential TS BONNIE, but that seemed too far to the south, however, according to some reports that “cutting wind” courtesy of that disturbance is what will keep our strong tropical wave from developing. Apparently we are suppose to get that much needed rain beginning with 100% on Saturday. We hope it materializes. May God bless us all.

  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Tue, 28 Jun 2022 23:54:34 -0400
Well, we sure hope that’s the case. It has been hot and dry. Ii’s time for real rain! The TW heading this way is to join with another to eventually produce the “D” storm? Could be, I saw one image of our TW yellow and suddenly saw it red! In the meanwhile it still stands that we are going to have a delightfully soggy weekend from Saturday to Monday and that sounds good enough for me. May God bless us all.

- June 27 - Will We Have A Deluge This Coming Weekend
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Mon, 27 Jun 2022 23:55:23 -0400
A very strong tropical wave is forecast to pass through our territory and surrounding islands this weekend. It is capable of producing more rain than we’ve had all year so far. The strong wind cutting  across from the potential tropical storm to our south will make it difficult for our disturbance to develop into anything more than a Depression. Nevertheless, we must prepare for the worse just in case . My prayers are with the folks to our south. Correspondent Ian, batten down over there in Trinidad and be safe along with all your people. May God bless us all.

- June 26 - A Real SUN Day
  • By Isabel Cerni <isabelcerni at gmail.com>
  • Date: Sun, 26 Jun 2022 18:58:15 -0400
Hello! I must add SUN with some roaming clouds. The possibility of afternoon thunderstorms did not materialize, so it was another hot, dry day. However, as long as we can smile, it’s a good day. As it looks at the moment, we should not have any effects whatsoever from 94 L except for some strong winds from the south which will help to keep the second tropical wave from forming. By the time that gets to us in several days it will be a tropical Depression bringing lots of rain to some very thirsty islands, like ours. That would be by next weekend. May God bless us all.

The sea is getting warmer each day. The hurricane fuel is ready! We are hoping to ONLY get some rain from Invest 94L. That would probably be Tuesday 28th and perhaps a few extra days after that. That would be great! The deer are out eating all the succulent plants they can find. They are often in our property. A cousin in Germany said that we are so lucky. They have to go to the zoo to see deer! Well, for the sake of the deer and everything, and everyone, I hope and pray that it finally does rain. May God bless us all.

It went from 20% to 60% chance in another five days as it forms into the “B” storm. By next Wednesday we should be feeling some effects from it. We are all hoping we can get some rain. Behind 94L there’s another one, but so far the NHC has not been very interested. At the moment they are focusing on 94L and another system in the Gulf area that can also become a name Storm. Lots of activity! At the moment we are getting a very nice rainfall! May God bless us all.

Thanks to one of my sources I can pass on this vital information to you. Deciphering Weather is usually on too with the latest. The first TW is going to fight the dry air, or Saharan dust. The second wave  is going to moisten the atmosphere, and the third one looks as if it will be one with which to contend. It could be the next name storm. May God bless us all.

I heard from one of my weather sources that there’s a general agreement that the “B” storm could be making an appearance through the Caribbean next week. It’s a matter of tracking and watching the direction it takes. It could be too low to our south, but we don’t know for sure. May God bless us all.

Last night’s post not only went out late - it was a busy day- but something went wrong with the photos and they came out extra large. Sorry about that.

I was hearing today from one of my weather sources about a system forming in the main development region between Africa and the islands; so far, it remains a possibility. That would be around the end of June. It’s never too early to prepare! May God bless us all.

There’s so much activity all around that the weather people cannot catch up. First it was the beginning of July to watch, now it’s before the end of June. And I don’t think anyone is ready for it, not at least until August. Well, we had better get with it because they were not kidding when they predicted a hyper active season. Plus, the waves are mostly coming this way, not like in the past when they turned up north. Watch and pray! May Gods bless us all!

That is, with a smattering of sunshine sprinkled here and there. Gloomy..? Yes, I guess we can call it gloomy, especially if we paid for sunshine. I always feel sorry for the visitors who expect a blue sky and sea and they get a gray, sunless one instead. But hey, that’s better than a storm, right? I remember the couple who arrived late one Saturday and on Monday they were heading back home running from powerful Hurricane MARIA. They had just enough time to snap a few pictures at their beachfront Condo. Nothing like that now, just cloudy and calm. May God bless us all.

After last night’s wonderful rain and accompanying rumbling of thunder it has looked overcast all day as if ready to rain again. There’s rain in the forecast for tomorrow. The main talk is the  very early activity between Africa and the Caribbean!! We could be having a hurricane in July somewhere in the Caribbean. This is serious talk, we have to prepare earlier. Be well, be ready, and may God bless us all.

It was the usual hot day but a refreshing breeze. That helps. Tracking the tropical wave I saw that it was not too far. It was going to pass mostly below us but we were going to get some rain. Well, shortly after 9 pm we got a very heavy shower, then another, I detected some rumbling in the distance. That was it, but got rain. This is just the beginning. May God bless us all.

One of them is headed west between Cape Verde and St. Lucia, the other is headed west between Cape Verde and the British Isles. Monitor, please! Those are the two that should be of interest to us. The other two are potentially dangerous for the mainland. This is a regional forecast from Huracan Tropical in the Dominican Republic.  So far, the activity for this season is surpassing the initial prediction. May God bless us all.

I sure did! Every drop is a blessing and it was so soothing. That was probably from the tropical wave mentioned by Barbados Correspondent Jurgen Starck. It must have rained again during the night. No lasting rains as yet to soak the ground but a little is better than nothing. We had two swift, hard showers this morning after I was up and about. I’m sure we caught some water in our tall blue tank. I think before long it’s going to rain, rain, rain. It’s good to be optimistic!! Then I’ll be begging it to stop, right? Such is life! May God bless us all.

This was the early morning look. We did get a brief shower a bit later.

Today the water from the hose of my garden tank was low, working down to a trickle. We will have to start using  the cistern water for the plants and turtles. Hopefully on Saturday we will get that rain! I know that the day will come when will be begging it to stop. This drought has lasted longer than usual. I also keep hearing reports of a very active season. Everyone is in agreement also that the number of hurricanes will be higher that in previous years.  It’s wise to begin early preparations as we could have lots of activity before the peak of the season. Be well. Prepare. aweend stay well. May God bless us all.

Usually the gazebo cannot be seen from the upper level. As for the white flowers, they are not affected by the drought as the  branches are loaded with a milky moisture.

Heads up, everyone! It's never too early to start preparing for what is considered "a very aggressive" hurricane season. Today I met someone who came down from Florida to fix his father's roof and get it ready. A fine move! The roof is the most critical part of the house. If that goes, so does the rest. Granted, houses are better constructed now than in pre-HUGO times. Shoddy construction led to mountains of debris after that hurricane. So, let's get to work! I hope Public Works will begin cleaning up the many abandoned houses which have caved in creating piles of debris; these in turn become missiles during hurricanes. We have to start working at hurricane preparedness from now; apparently, the storms are going to traverse more to the south this time and that means right through our Caribbean neighborhood. May God bless us all!

The potential storm # 1 finally was officially declared  the first tropical storm of the season after it had beaten up a few places along the way leaving a trail of death and destruction with 30 people missing! Now it’s heading for a bull’s eye assault on Bermuda on Monday. They are always well prepared and should be able to brave the storm which will be considerably smaller than others with which they dealt in the past. This is only the beginning folks! We have a long road ahead until November. Be prepared! May God bless us all.

Saharan dust! It leaves a tell-tale sign on our cars and on everything else! The blue turns to gray and then, of course, the sea. Worst of all, when the dust is present it dries up any possibility of rain which we need so much. The dust also makes it feel hotter, perhaps because it comes from Africa..? Naw, that’s a bit far-fetched. I can hardly wait for those refreshing tropical waves from Africa, even if they get dramatic sometimes.. At the moment they are too low to our south to benefit us. Hope you’re having a cooler day. May God bless us all.

In the meanwhile other places are getting an over abundance of rain produced by the disturbance in the GOM. It has remained a “potential” cyclone making its way across Florida and parts of Cuba leaving a trail of flooded areas behind. Here the Saharan dust has crept back in. Our 1 minute Ferry ride to the beach on the cay this morning was most refreshing. We wanted our guest from Delaware to experience it. She was amazed at how warm the water felt. The sky was most entertaining with all sorts of puffy cloud formations. It was another wonderful day in the American Paradise. May God bless us all.

Very early this morning as the sun rose it kissed our golden palace in the historic site, which we can see from our house. Actually, it is not a palace, but a real fort with cannons and canon balls ready for any threat. Tourists and locals alike enjoy a visit there. It has a beautiful, commanding view of the surrounding area. The weather is “dreamy”- no rain in sight. Watching Florida and hoping everyone gets through the worst safely. If hot and dry is your kind of weather, then welcome to St. Croix! Even this palm tree looks as if it’s begging for some relief. I must admit that night temps are cool, so it’s like the desert. We’re keeping an eye on Florida where we have many people. We were expecting a friend from Delaware tonight and all flights were canceled this morning, so fortunately she can come tomorrow arriving earlier which is better. However, she’s coming through Miami !! The storm heading to  Florida has a 90% chance of developing, so that’s kind of “iffy”. We can only hope for the best. May God bless us all.

June 1 - Hurricane Season 2022 promises to be very active, or hyper-active, with the presence of the MJO (Madden Julian Oscillation) which tends to enhance things. As you see from my signature photo, our weather is very pleasant. However, we wish that the drought be over soon so that we can see green lawns and the flamboyant trees blooming with their beautiful, flaming flowers. We need rain, not like the 10” they expect in Florida and Cuba by the weekend, but enough each day to make a difference. I wish you all a safe and happy season. Enjoy it one day at a time as we do. May God bless us all.
