We need rain. There was a bit in January and two weeks ago, a drizzle. The landscape is parched. Enough is enough, Mother Nature. The sky has been grey and light winds prevail.  A very light sprinkle lasted 5 seconds this afternoon. It seems as if Sahara Dust is pretty strong as well.

Crowds are light after King’s Day.  Not much else to report. Send some rain our way….

Greetings from the Dutch Caribbean! We got about three minutes of light and
then heavy precipitation and then it just ended! For me I was pretty excited
because we haven't seen rain in so long! Enclosed is a picture of a beautiful
boy waiting to be adopted from the animal shelter Bonaire! It is an amazing
shelter, with humane and loving volunteers, supporting the needs of our island
animals!

Everyone is out in full force getting ready to camp on the island! Over at
Donkey Beach, there were about 50 tents! Happy Easter everyone

The wind is absolutely crazy. Kitemanera is going off and wow, the kiters are happy. King of Bonaire, a fun freestyle windsurf event has 24 or so sailors, so I am told and they are competing in super 4.7 meter sail conditions. Absolutely amazing.  Today, I hold my 3rd Mindfulness Meditation Retreat and am excited to expand my practice and bring it to others of like mind.

We need rain! I cannot remember the last time we had a good soaking.

Wow, this dry spell is never ending. Folks are reminiscing about droughts in previous years when comparing this drought. I had a heard of donkeys outside my yard drinking from the massive bucket I have filled with water. The winds are moderate, nice enough for the ABK Boardsports Clinic. Hoping for more as there is another May 30 week.  Loved hearing my neighbors to the east got some rain. Keep the reports coming Lisette and all.

If you want to learn to windsurf, come visit Bonaire. It’s super beginner friendly.

STINAPA hosts another Branderis hike this weekend. Here is a photo from the last hike sunrise I participated.

Bon Siman or Happy Week

What a fabulous stretch of weather. Balmy trade winds settled down a bit and glorious sun graced our landscape but wait, the wind will be back. My kite surf and windsurf clients have been elated with the wind. Most sailors have been on very small sails, 4.7 meter and similar. Thanks to El Niño, it’s been wind heaven on Bonaire. We need some rain to water the landscape and the donkeys.

Karnival is over and everyone is back to busy life. Traffic patterns have increased on island and the building boom continues. I wish life would slow down a little bit but still, Bonaire is serene.

Get ready for Kitemanera, a wild and fun kite surf event slated for the 19th and 20th of March. For more info booking accommodations contact me at ann at bonairecaribbean.com

Bon Dia from The Dutch Caribbean

The days are glorious for windsurfers and kite surfers. Thanks El Niño for blessing us with crazy winds. My friend Andy Brandt is on island teaching is annual winter ABK Boardsport clinics.  I book these clinics and windsurf packages for my clients with pleasure. Those coming down have been treated to great windsurf conditions.  I have been windsurfing on island since 2001 and have never seen wind like this. I do wish we had some more rain as conditions remain dry.

Bon Dia from Bonaire

The winds that were ramped up for two months lightened up significantly since last week. The days are balmy and dry. Our rainy season still has not really happened. Dec. 25th was the last significant precipitation.

The island is celebrating Carnival. Cruise ship season is in full swing. I love the small boutique lines but the mega ships are entirely too big for our island infrastructure. Still, they are fascinating to watch come and go in contrast to our tiny little town and island.

If you are on island, take a peak at my blog for island updates. If you haven’t been and long to visit, do contact me.

Have a dushi day

Bon Dia from Bonaire

After weeks of crazy wind, it died down a bit. We have not had rain since Christmas but that precipitation was sufficient for a while. The temperatures are lovely and weather conditions are so comfortable.

Having spent 15 years in Bonaire, I feel Christmas was a little quieter  New Years Eve, the same. I suspect airline prices were too high for many to travel. I do hope we have a prosperous and busy tourist season.

Take a peak at http://www.bonairecaribbean.com/home/bonaire-bliss-weblog/ for a review of my new favorite Bonaire restaurant. Brazilian fare on Bonaire, wow.

- Wow, We Have Weather

Bon Tarde from Bonaire

Bonaire’s enjoying incredible rainy days and gusty winds. Sometimes, we have torrential downpours and wicked wind. In a day or two, we will see lots of blooming flowers and green landscapes.  Watching WindGuru’s forecast, these crazy winds will last for days to come. We have a boat day planned for Wed. but will likely cancel.

New for my life experience will be snorkeling to see the Ostrocods on the 29th. We will head to The Lake or Donkey Beach. Anyone on island is welcome to join our group.

Well, the fireworks are for sale now so all the island dog’s are going to suffer for 6+ days. Some pet owners use Nature’s Remedy. Take care of your dogs during this time. Fingers crossed not too many are lost.  It’s a fun time for NYE but overall, I have great disdain for the fireworks.

Have a super day

Happy Christmas from rainy Bonaire

Wow, such a day. I found out we have a little roof leak thanks to torrential rains, not seen in years, here in Bonaire. Watching the radar loop, it may continue into the afternoon. I tried to head over to windsurf to no avail..to rainy and wicked gusty. Folks heading out came right back in as squalls were short lived.

We are hunkering down, watching a video and snacking on holiday treats

Merry Christmas from Bonaire

Wow, the wind God and Goddess love us. It has been “Yellow Alert” for days with super strong winds. It’s sometimes 3.5 meter windsurf sailing these days. Coupled with high tides, we are all happy here on Bonaire (windsurfers). Mariners should continue to be on alert.

When time allows, take a peak at my new improved website. I started my travel business in 1987 with a focus on Antigua. It grew to several islands but later, in 2001, I switched my focus to a speciality niche, windsurfing and diving on Bonaire. If you have not yet traveled here, do come soon. I’d be ever so happy to welcome you.

As I reflect on the year, I have such gratitude for my wonderful friends, family and travel clientele. Rampages of true appreciation for my island life. More of this!

Have a lovely holiday

Happy Friday from Bonaire

We had a magnificent halo around the sun day. Weather lore suggests rain is coming. According to www.meteo.cw this is true for tomorrow. Our landscape could use some rain.

Winds ramped up today. Whilst the windsurf area as not so crowded today, those on the water enjoyed 18+ conditions. Lac Bay was magical.

  • By Ann Phelan <ann at bonairecaribbean.com>

Holy moly, it’s going to be green again soon. We had some heavy rain and crazy loud active thunder and lightning. My foster doggies were petrified. Fortunately, our parched landscape received some much needed rain. Since the end of Aug. we have had 3 days of intermittent rain. Wonderful news for sure.

Wind continues to make any late season kitesurfers and windsurfers mighty happy.

All’s well today…watching a weather system heading near T&T. It might impact the ABC’s again.

Bookings for the winter are streaming in. My feature property of the week is Windsock, a low rise, small and intimate accommodation in Belnem. This is a favorite for windsurfers and kitesurfers as well as divers.

Bon Tarde from the Dutch Caribbean

We had some nice rain this week in the south of Bonaire. A bit further north, my friends reported nothing at all. Spotty showers are so frustrating for most locals as we do need a good rain storm.

Everyone on Bonaire seems to be posting about Hurricane Danny which is a bit curious since it’s over 600km away and we are outside the hurricane belt. One can hope for some wind (for the windsurfers and kiters) and rain (for all).  I hope Danny brings much needed respite from the dry conditions to my neighbors to the East. Be safe all and be prepared.

Recently, it appears Sargassum has come ashore on Lac Bay. The piles are growing and the Sea Turtle Conservation is on hand to rescue the baby turtles stuck on shore in the mess. 7 babies were rescued the other day, so I am told.  The vigilance of this nature oriented community is outstanding and appreciated.

My gardener brought me a bunch of Guineps since the Lora’s ate my crop. The iguna’s are fighting me constantly and are winning. I have lost so many trees thanks to these creatures.  It’s been a rough season with the drought.

Pasa bon dushi wikent, tur hende

Have a great weekend, everyone

Bonaire’s heating up. Winds are lightening up substantially.  The Wounded Warriors arrive soon, a much anticipated event.

Did anyone take any fantastic photos of the meteor showers? It was cloudy her Wed. night so I did not go meteor hunting. I live near the airport to the night sky is bright. Last night, I spied a few.

Since the 19th and 20th of July, we have had little rain. The winds are still cranking much to the delight of the windsurf crew. 4.5 meter sails prevail. • From: Ann Phelan <ann at bonairecaribbean.com>

Around 11 o'clock this morning, the skies became very dark and thunder was
hurt in the distance. Suddenly the skies opened up and heavy rains and wind
descended upon Belnem. Shortly after the rain started, I read on a Facebook
page that someone commented they had not seen so much rain and thunder in many
many years. I think perhaps some other parts of the island got more because I
wasn't too impressed with what descended upon our corner of the island however,
rain is rain and it's all good
