- Back to normal

Our power was out for about 24 hours. Mostly horticultural debris down and not
structural damage to buildings or infrastructure. Schools have resumed and
back to work we go.
Fingers crossed for the rest of the season!!!

Reports of power starting to go around the island. Winds picking up. So far
we have power where we are... But getting worse quickly!

Good day everyone
Prayer and wishes for speedy recovery to our sister islands in the Bahamas. Our hearts go out to you as Joaquin heads our way.
I took a drive earlier in the day the north shore was still very calm. Some people were actually swimming in Shelly Bay. Travelling Hamilton and Smith Parishes  roads  on the north were quiet and calm. The south roads were starting to get some more blustery weather. John Smith Bay was very pretty with lots of wave action and a few gusts that made me stumble  as they hit me.
Many of the grocery stores were still open for last minute shoppers.
Bermuda is ready, as ready as we can be. All school will be closed tomorrow and the ERO has put all Emergency Services on alert. Some regiment officers have been embodied.
I am not looking forward to this event.. I was one of the last to get my power back after last year's two storms. The thought of a month without electricity and being displaced from my home is not a memory I want to repeat.
Will keep you updated as I can.
So far so good. I am going to put supper in the oven soon.

I have attached a funny picture I have entitled "the one that isn't going to get away"

For those of you that have followed my posts in the past you know my drill. My
condo is up high facing the south shore and very exposed ... So we don't stay
there during storms like this. We go to my friends house. They have 3 kids, 2
cats (I'm allergic) , a rabbit and currently about.... Ohhhhh... Roughly 20
chickens (did I mention these were INSIDE?). So technically we are evacuating
one circus for another. But we love them. And they serve good coffee... And
laughs. So here we are. The kids are fine until the wifi goes down and then
hunger games ensues. I've bought enough junk food for a year.
So far there is heavy cloud cover... Very very humid and lots of rain. No real
wind yet.
Not liking the reports out of the Bahamas. But like all islands.... They will
band together and make it good as new.
I'll post again as things get worse.

We just had a squall come through. Nothing major yet. I drove all the way to
the west end today... Saw many many boats being moved to safety but only 2
homes being boarded and 1 gas station with hurricane shutters. Given the storm
is a hair below a cat 5 at present... I wonder if we are all too complacent
this time. A slight shift to the east and we are in for a long long clean up :/
More later.

my husband is out buying some last minute supplies. I Tidied up the balcony
and brought in everything that could fly. I'm doing some laundry and then
going to bake some stuff before the possibility of power going out. We will be
spending tomorrow at a friends house that sits at a lower elevation than we do.
No real plans to board up and I don't see neighbors boarding either.

More later!
