During the night in CADES BAY we had heavy rain enough to moisten the ground this is the first appreciable rain since we returned on 21 St April

other little showers have barely kept the dust down

Greetings Everyone,

Having some crazy temperature swings here on Nevis with unusually cool temperatures at night this month.
Going from a high of 89 F to a low of 64 F, a 25 degree difference.
I don't ever recall such low temperatures for this area. I wonder what other islands are seeing for lows?

Not complaining, just noting.

Regards,

Harry

Good afternoon to all,

Today has been showery with some strong gusting winds. The sun keeps trying to
break through the overcast sky. It is definitely cooler today and I got caught
in a shower and the rain was very cold! Still polo shirt and shorts weather
though!

Frank Goodwill

- Christmas Day Weather
  • From: "Weather Update" <nevis.storm at hotmail.com>
  • Date: Wed, 25 Dec 2013 09:33:59 -0400
Good morning everyone,

Well the flash flood warning has been discontinued as the low pressure coming our way lacks moisture so the ‘bad weather’ seems to have been over the Windward Islands. This morning has been overcast with a covering of grey cloud but no showers/rain so far. At the moment the sun is starting to shine through breaks in the cloud.

Have a blessed an peaceful day,

Frank Goodwill

- Merry Christmas - Silent Night (so far)
  • From: "Weather Update" <nevis.storm at hotmail.com>
  • Date: Tue, 24 Dec 2013 22:32:07 -0400
Good Night Everyone,

A flash flood warning has been issued for St. Kitts-Nevis and surrounding islands as it looks as if we may experience a number of thunderstorms with heavy rain on Christmas Day.

As usual it is a little ‘chilly’ in the evenings and we have had some showers overnight.

So far it has been a ‘silent night’ up in the foothills of Nevis Peak, so we shall have to wait and see what comes our way later on tonight and into tomorrow. ‘Normal’ weather should resume on Boxing Day.

A Merry Christmas to one and all . Peace and “Goodwill” to you for the season and into 2014.

Good morning everyone,

After yesterday’s unsettled weather things have returned back to ‘normal’ Caribbean weather so far today. There is still a good breeze blowing and it looks a little hazy but I can’t complain.

As a comparison with yesterday a link to a video taken this morning is attached.

Good evening everyone,

It has been a day of showers and strong gusting winds today on Nevis. The
intensity of the showers increased as the day progressed, with one at about 4pm
having thunder and lightning associated with it. We are still having some light
showers now but the wind has died down. Took a short video this afternoon of
the weather.

A pleasant good morning to one and all,

A bright and breezy start to Sunday here in Nevis. Due to the lack of activity
in the Caribbean there is a named storm in the United Kingdom! Due to impact
the south of Britain with 70-80 mph gusts Sunday into Monday, it is being
called St Jude after the patron saint of lost causes, whose feast day is on
Monday.

Good afternoon everyone,

After a couple of days of unsettled weather things a back to the usual
Caribbean weather. Down at sea level Charlestown was sunny and hot. It was
quite refreshing returning to the old homestead in the Nevis Peak foothills,
where a strong refreshing breeze has been blowing all day. A couple of sunshine
photos to brighten up the day are attached. Nevis Peak and Saddle Hill.

Today has been a change I live in Cades Bay,St Thomas Parrish and in the late morning it rained very heavily for about an hour then ceased  I went round to  the North of the Island to St James's Parrish and at 1330 the heavens opened up on me again.
Its now  1830 and t has rained incessantly with thunder and lightening since 1530 and it seems to have no intention of stopping it dies down then flares up again.

The water is pouring into the cistern so that is good and the plants are getting a very good drenching  almost enough rain for rice.

Keep dry

Good evening all,

Overcast with sunny breaks today. On the Windward side of the island (Atlantic) there was about an hour’s worth of rain between 12 noon and 1pm with some thunder – everybody commenting that it was nice having some rain for a change. A pleasant afternoon/evening – dry with a great sunset with yellow, orange and reds being reflected off the clouds. Sorry no camera to show a picture.

There hasn't been much to report lately except it has been hot, humid, with an
occasional shower. Today has been muggy and mostly overcast with rumbles of
thunder but no rain this afternoon. The hotels have finished their break and
are open for a new season and the weather is looking good for the tourists.

Having returned to UK for two months and experienced the coldest Spring for 50 years we are now back on Nevis to the warmth.

Here on Nevis we have had very heavy showers on and off for several days and more is expected. We must not complain the cistern is nearly full the ground is soft and so weeding is easier. The view out on to the Caribbean is hazy  and St Kitts not well defined.

Good afternoon,

It has been dry over the last few days. Today’s weather has consisted of hazy sunshine with gusty winds, with some of the gusts are very strong.  There was also a whirlwind that scooted across my yard causing leaves to be lifted up and spun into the air.

A view to the south west looking out across the Caribbean Sea – yes honest it is out there!

I'm wondering when the sun will shine on Nevis again?

Good morning,

After a couple of reasonable days weatherwise, today so far has been overcast with some heavy showers/prolonged periods of rain. We had some brisk winds yesterday which have calmed down today. So today is pretty damp with the sun making an attempt to break through the cloud.

Good afternoon,

At about 3am this morning we had some heavy rain falling for about one and a half hours, so first thing this morning was pretty damp. So far today it has been mostly cloudy with some hazy sunshine. The easterly wind has dropped so it is quite still and feels humid. A photo added looking towards the south-west coast of the Island.

Today it has been showers in Nevis with some thunder and a short electricity outage at 11 am. It has been overcast so far today and at present (1:30 pm) we are having one of those long heavy showers with blustery winds to start with. Not a day for being outside, even the dogs have taken shelter inside today, which is unusual!

Good morning everyone,

1st June and the start of another hurricane season and this one is forecast to be busy.

Today Nevis started with early morning showers with a couple being heavy. A good gusty breeze is blowing today and the overcast sky is breaking up a bit to let some hazy sunshine through.

The rain we had during May has returned the Island back to its lush green self.

Attached is a picture taken today of the cloud over Saddle Hill.

Greetings,

Guess it's safe to say the 3 month drought has ended. Getting a lot of rain this month. As the saying goes "April showers bring May flowers".
Sure will be a bumper crop of Mango's this summer. Just about every tree is covered with flower buds. Pretty to look at in the bush but not so pretty in your garden. Flower buds plugging up cistern downspouts, pool dirty everyday, raking garden 2-3 times a week from bud stems. Ah life in paradise, I'll take it thank you.

Regards,

Harry
