Title: Leewards Alert: RORC Caribbean 600 Yacht Race is coming soon
Leeward Islands – The RORC Caribbean 600 Yacht Race is coming shortly to your waters! (21st Feb) We are hoping for brisk trade winds and seas. See http://caribbean600.rorc.org/
THE EYES HAVE IT. French boats near Guadeloupe kindly note this!
Racing offshore in beautiful weather is usually quite relaxing – however I give you an exceptional example from the RORC Caribbean 600 near Basterre last year.
Bowling along in flat water – boat going about 20-25 kts – conversation went something like this:

Picture One : Lower Trimmer (out of camera shot): “Hey guys – have you seen this boat here?”

Picture Two: Upper Trimmer (waking up): “Wha? Which boat?”

Picture Three: Upper Trimmer: “Oh - that one – ‘course we saw it!” Helm : “ Sacre Bleu – quel equipage stupide – etc etc” Lower Trimmer: “*********!” etc etc

- Five dead in Guadeloupe due to heavy tain

Due to very heavy and persistant rain in Guadeloupe since sunday night ( 300mm in some places in 48 hours ) five people are dead due to wahsout of their car by flooding river.
Sincere condoleances to their family.
At the present the weather is returning to normal, but rains are still possible and due to ground saturation flooding remain a distinct posiibility.
These rains are apparently due to a cinflict between cols air and moist and hot air in upper levels, cobine to and old frontal boundary that stalled over Guadeloupe

7 Years Advising Companies in the Caribbean
Today is the first day since Aug 20th that there has not been an advisory of some sort in the Atlantic/Caribbean. An intense season if not a particularly destructive one for the islands. Huge cloud ares in the Western Caribbean imply something will happen there soon but the Eastern Atlantic looks better than it has done for a while. Sailing season starts soon!! Anyone for the RORC 600 this year?

7 Years Advising Companies in the Caribbean
The Earth looking good today – TS LISA spinning nicely going North and away from our islands.  People in Canaries, Madera and Azores need to monitor it.
Rgds to all, JB.
