- Still getting rain
  • By raquel croes <raquelicroes64 at yahoo.com>
  • Date: Wed, 2 Mar 2011 06:37:43 -0800 (PST)
Good morning Folks,

It's been a long time since I've last wrote about the weather here on Aruba.
The hurricane season has long come and gone, but we are still getting rain.
Even this morning it rain again, what now is like something normal to us.

Last Sunday, our children parade was cancelled due to heavy rain.
Lest's hope that we won't get any during this week end.
We will have Carnival Parade going on the whole week end.

Take care, be good, be safe and stay sweet.

Raquel.

Good Evening,

Wishing you all a Merry, Merry Christmas.
Huricane season is long gone, but we are still getting a lot of rain.
Not sure for how long we will have to endure this weather, but it does look
like some more weeks ahead of us.

For sure the trees are very happy for this.
The people are not so appy, some did experience flood.
Homes filling up with water, cause the soil is saturated and if there's no way for the
water to get back to the sea it will flood whatever stands in his way.

Will keep you posted.

Take care, be good, be safe and stay sweet.
Happy Holidays.
Raquel Croes.

Hi,

Yesterday morning when I woke up it was still raining.

After a few hours it stopped and the sun came out, but from the north east the sky filled up  again with dark clouds.

And then it started and it rained which lasted till around 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

As the soil is soaked, the water stayed in my yard and covered my porch too with water.

I live in Paradera on a high spot so the water can flow easily to lower places.

The only problem I have is that the whole yard is fenced with a wall and the water stays in it.

So I had to drill some holes to let the water go.

Anyway it is dry till now (it is 8:25 in the morning).

The sky is overcast and checking the satellite and radar show some activities, but I think we won’t keep it dry.

Till next time

Roy

Hi,

I don’t know what is wrong these days.

We have not had a complete dry day yet.

When I woke up this morning my whole yard was a swimming pool.

We had to do some shopping, but it was terrible to drive.

Luckily I have a SUV so the water pools did not bother me, but I had to get out to help somebody whose car stopped.

Coming home I checked the satellite and what I saw is not good.

I think it will be raining all day today, because I see it coming from the west and from the south.

There are a lot of activities planned for today, but I don’t know if it all is going ahead.

Will keep you updated.

Roy

Hi,

I think a lot of people were wondering why there was no message from Aruba during Thomas.

Well I was on vacation in the states when this all happened.

Of course I was watching the news on the weather channel and followed all about this storm.

Now that I am back on the island I think that today is the first day without heavy rain.

Just now I was looking at the satellite and saw a big area above and around Aruba.

It is still dry, but who knows.

I don’t know how much more rain this island can handle, because all the dams are more than full.

You see some trees hanging because the soil is so wet and loose that they are starting to fall down.

The roads are cracking up and a lot of dirt and sand on it.

There is one positive point and that is that the island is green all over.

The trucks for emptying the settling tanks are making overtime.

I called the company this morning and they can help me on Monday at the earliest.

So I think and know that every positive thing has a negative part too.

This is it for now and I’ll come back if there are any changes.

Dear Folks,

As you guys are still keeping an eye in the Caribbean, Aruba is getting rain from time to time.
We had 1 day of Sun and heat, but it looks like we are going for some showers again.

The soil can't hold any water anymore, we had a 15 min hard rain yesterday. All the rain was over the roads, running from high grounds to lower parts of the island a/o to the sea.

Lets see how many day more we are going to get rain.
I can still remember while growing up, we used to have wet Christmas. LOL
Maybe this will turn out to be one of those years.

Take care, be good, be safe and stay sweet.

I;ll keep you updated.

Hello Folks,

It's been a while, but we are still getting rain on the Island. Most of the dams are full and can't hold more rain, this will run to the sea. The ground here on the Island is saturated .
The bright side is that the Island is turning green, most of the trees are getting green again.
The hill in front of the airport is not brown anymore but turning green.

In general the rain was okay, the sea was a kind of rough by the high rise hotels, but that was it.

Will keep you posted.
Take care, be good, be safe and stay sweet.

Hi Folks,

Saturday was the last day I saw the Sun and before that it was like a month ago.
We are still getting a lot of rain, the soil is saturated, the Island is becoming very green.
No wonder October is being called the month of the flower.
So far we are handling things good, no major damage, just wondering till when we are getting rain.

Will keep up updated.

Take care, be good, be safe and stay sweet.

Hi,

After a few days with sunshine and sometimes heavy rain, this evening is a different case.

Just around 9 o’clock pm I heard the wind blowing around the house.

And what never happened was that my big umbrella went with the wind.

It started to rain hard for about 10 minutes, but the amount of water what came down flooded my whole yard and that is about 1000 sq feet.

Checking the radar shows a big area what is coming over aruba now.

But checking my daughters, they told me that it was dry in their place.

One thing is sure,  the island is very green now.

Till next time

Good morning Folks,

This morning when I woke up and saw outside, I saw that finally the Sun came out.
Not sure for how long, cause when I step outside I can still see some dark and rainy clouds around and from the sun is shinning there are some more coming this way.
Although I did enjoy the rain very much, I guess it's time for the sun to shine a little bit, cause the soil is so saturated that I think, it can't absorb more water.
Saw on TV last night that the holes they made around the island to keep some water ( dams ), most of them are full, so I think we are good for now with the rain.
These last 3 days of rain was very intense, especially yesterday. It's rained in Piedra Plat (Flat-stone City), for a half hour straight with winds, both porch were filled with water.

I can notice that the island is getting green too, the trees around the Island and when I see Hooiberg (Haystack Hill ), it's getting greener, instead of being brownish.

Well will keep you guys updated. Have a blessed Week end.

Take care, be good, be safe and stay sweet.
Raquel.

Lots of rain this morning in Aruba, it started in the early a,m.
The towns of San Nicolas and Savaneta were inundated with water.
Traffic was creeping and visibility was poor.
It was raining buckets.
It was reported that the town of Oranjestad was flooded in certain areas yesterday.
It is still very cloudy and dismal this afternoon but no rain.

Wondering if there is another system close by?

Well, weird weather to say the least.  The forecast changes every 4-6 hours, so I guess it is up to the wind to decide if, when and how much rain we are going to get.  Not fun when the wind keeps shifting and dying.  They are predicting thundershowers again tonight.  Y'all should have seen the sky here last night about 6pm.............whooowee. I was going home from work and over me was black/green clouds that were bubbling at the bottom,to the right was battle ship grey with light grey tinges,  to the left was a sulphur yellow sky with a rainbow shooting straight up out of it and to the west was the most blood red sky I have ever seen (check out the pix at www.24ora.com or www.diario.aw- incredible).  Really gave you a twitchy feeling inside.  We took precautionary measures and unplugged the computers tonight just because it is so uncertain.

We shall see what happens during the night and into tomorrow.  Right now calm and variable winds, but we did have a steady patter of rain for about 3 hours.  Hi Marcus in Curacao and Ann in Bonaire- shoot me an email if it gets funky there, here we have flying ants coming out and my knees are killing me- and I will do the same for you!

Take care y'all- I don't see the fat lady singing quite yet this season.........

Hi,

Yesterday in the evening it looked like if something was gonna happen, but nothing.

This morning when I woke up and looked outside it was still overcast with thick and black clouds.

It rained some in Paradera, don’t know yet on other parts of the island.

I have included some pictures from last night.

We will see what this will bring us, because it is not over yet.

Hi,

It is not over yet.

My daughter just called my wife telling that Aruba is getting BAD weather.

Jumped behind the computer and checked the satellite.

What I see coming does not promise something good.

Within less than an hour it is over Aruba.

We’ll wait and see what is gonna happen.

Till later.

Hi,

It is quite again, but checking the satellite, who knows.

Yesterday was a heavy day for Aruba, for it was thunder and lightning and heavy rains.

The day before yesterday it rained also very heavy, but only on certain parts of Aruba.

Where I live, Paradera it was dry and no wind with a humidity of almost 90%.

So a little bit cool off was nice.

Till next time

Hallo Folks,

Yesterday we received some rain in the morning hours, including thunder and lighting.

Last night it started again and it went all night long. This morning there was no sun.

Around 1 o'clock the show begun again with heavy thunder and lighting, electricity gone at the same time it lasted for 1 hour more and less.

Heavy rain and winds, which lasted for like 30 min. then came the calm again.

We may get the same weather during tonight, lets just hope that the electricity will last, kind of difficult to sleep with no airco on LOL.

Will report again by tomorrow.

Take care, be good, be safe and stay sweet.

Hallo Folks,

Yesterday and the day before we had some serious weather condition, rain and thunderstorm.

Because of this there were some districts on the Island that lost power during the night.

Even the flight from Miami AA # 1318 at 10:30 pm had to land in the Dominican Republic.

Today during the day the weather was very humid, hot and no breeze again. There were some clouds

in the sky, but no rain at all during the day.

Tonight it's very quiet so far, little wind.

Keeping an eye on all the activities that are going on in the neighborhood.

People, take care, be good, be safe and stay sweet.

Raquel.

BTW I got myself a partner in crime, it's a puppy named "Sasha". LOL
She get to sleep in my room for now. ;-)

Hi,

Last night I was woken up by thunder and lightning and heavy rain.

But I fell asleep again and in the morning, when I woke up, my wife told me that the government closed all the schools on Aruba.

When I had started up my computer and checked the satellite it shows that it was actually over.

But they said that around 9:30 am heavy rain should come again.

Again I checked it out but nothing was showing so…….??

Anyway the children had a day off and It kept dry for the rest of the day and the temperature went up again fast with a high humidity.

Now I am anxious watching Igor for it looks like a mean hurricane.

I still hope and pray that the predictions by the experts will be right and his course will be back to the big ocean instead of the Windward Islands.

Well tomorrow will tell.

Till next time

Hi,

As we watched Earl and Fiona passing the windward islands, especially Saba for my family lives over there, Aruba was hot and humid.

We did not get any rain, but when I woke this morning it was overcastted and my chairs outside on the porch were wet.

Looking at the satellite I don’t think we will get too much sun today.

Still praying for the people on the other islands.

Hi,

The past two weeks we had some good showers on the island, but the temperature is high.

Watching Danielle disappear to the north and seeing Earl coming.

But looking at “My Satellite”  is not what I like.

I hope it is wrong, but it looks like if Earl is moving to the Caribbean sea in the direction of Barbados and the mainland of Venezuela.

Then it looks like that Aruba will also get her share of Earl.

Anyhow I will keep a close watch on this Earl and come back as soon as I know more.

The sky is still cloudy, so we might get some more rain during the day.

I hope we get some more rain, cause it had been very hot these last couple of days.
The plants out there will be also very happy to finally get some water for a change.

This is the beginning of the season, so start to check and do the repairs where it's needed.

Hi there,

Yesterday we finally started to get some rain. It was clouded the whole day, with some showers so now and then. I guess we can expect more of these kind of weather during this season. You can notice already that the plants are starting to get greener.
Today it was very hot and humid, that's what you get after a rainy day.

I hope the people here on the Island are ready for any unexpected situation.
Please be prepared, start to walk around your house to check what you have that can become a danger for yourself in case of any bad weather. Anything loose, which can become a flying object is dangerous.

Well folks, take care, be safe, be good and stay sweet.

Hi,

Well at last Paradera had some rain yesterday and this morning.

But the sun is there shining again and it is already 35 degrC.

It was good for the island but way too little.

You see the palm trees getting browner and browner.

For me the WEB will get more money the end of the month, for I don’t like my palm trees to get too dry, so I water them twice a week extra although I have a drip system.

We will keep an eye on the weather stations and satellites and read the prognoses from the experts.

Hi there,

It was terrible the last few days.

Temperature at Paradera was/is between 35 and 38 ˚C and the humidity is around the 60 and 70.

Had no serious rain for months now and checking the satellite I see something heading our island.

I hope it will be plenty rain as the island needs it and will sure drop the temperature a good bit.

Sorry for the tourists but for the  elderly people of the island it is better that the temperature will drop a little bit.

Will keep you posted.
