friends from the caribbean and beyond!
hi y'all! i wish i could send a report at least once a day, but right now i'm looking for a job, and with the HEAT we've been experiencing this week, the only thing i think about when i get home is to take a shower, grab a book (currently orwell's 1984) and enjoy a refreshing kalimocho.
i'm exagerating a bit. last week's rains are well gone by now, and one of two thing is happening: either i'm getting used to this weather, or the storms left behind some really strong, cool winds. i was chatting with mi sister last night, and had to close the window cuz the wind was so cool and strong!
so, visitors and tourists, relax!! wather is just great. lots of sun, lots of fresh winds, and a bit of clouds late in the evening (we still have very few, light, and sporadic showers). just please keep in mind that the CNA's forecast warns about strong winds (>45km/h or >28mph) and a good chance of precipitation (>20mm, or >0.79in) for this weekend throughout the peninsula.
last week's rains were just that. roads going south to the riviera maya and east to chichEn-itzA and mErida are just fine to drive along. heather, expect a 20USD toll when going to chichEn-itzA, each way. and, on sundays, entrance to the site is free!
i wish i could say the same for the rest of SEern mExico. neighbor states of chiapas, tabasco and veracruz are having a really hard time, even though alma and arthur were the slightests storms! a federal disaster fund is already available for those governorships. it's sad, but we seem not to learn from our recent disaster experiences. my roomies and i wen't to sam's and bought lots of canned food, instant coffee (of course!) and cigarrettes (why not!?). we also have four 20lt water bottles. maybe we sound paranoic, but this is our very first season over here. anyway, locals just stared at us like we were crazy or dumb, and a guy even asked, when leaving sam's, if there was a hurricane coming or what. i told him i didn't knew, but it won't get me unprepared!
so, for today, that's my contribution. thank you, max and heather, for your emails. i promise i'll try to come back more often.
césar.

Hi folks. My name is Cesar, and I am very proud to be a Hurricane Correspondant for this beautiful part of my country.
I've been living over here for the last 6 months, and this is the first time I live so close to the coast, so I'm still getting used to hurricane terminology, and am still waiting to experience my very first one!
So, a few days after this season began, here's my first report :)
It had been REALLY hot and humid until Alma came last week. That storm brought lots of long-waited rain, and right after it was ending, Arthur began. We had really good days of overcast skies and showers all day long. The Sun came and went along the day, but it was CONSIDERABLY cooler than before. Rains stopped on Monday, leaving a fresher atmosphere and still an overcast sky. This morning a glorious Sun came up, and a few friends of mine went to the beach, did some skimboarding and great sealife-wacthing (Does that term exist? Birdwatch does, so...). I regret not going with them. Instead, I rented Hairspray XD A little after 2pm, the sky got overcast again and the rest of the evening was cool and fresh and just great.
I talk about overcast sky being great because I lived the last ten years in Oaxaca City, and still miss that cool, mountainy (?) weather :P
So, friends from the Caribbean Islands and beyond, this is me and my first contribution to the GREAT job you've been carrying along.
See ya'll soon!
